In 1996 a great moment of show history took place when Jarvis Cocker invaded the stage because he felt disgusted of Michael Jackson and tried to "save" some children from him. He was taken to prison for one night after that incident but his strenght to be authentic and show when he feels a situation is contradicting made his fans (like me) love him even more..
An official statement from Jarvis himself followed the next day:
My actions were are form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing.
The music industry allows him to indulge his fantasies because of his wealth and power. People go along with it even though they know it's a bit sick.
I just couldn't go along with it anymore. It was a spur of the moment decision brought on by boredom and frustration.
I just ran on the stage and showed off. I didn't make any physical contact with anyone as far as I recall. I certainly didn't push anyone offstage.
I find it very insulting to be accused of assaulting children. All I was trying to do was make a point and do something that lots of other people would have loved to have done if only they'd dared.
